Pseudoarthrosis

Pseudoarthrosis is another word for false joint because it refers to an area of unhealed bone that has motion like a joint but is not a true joint, and is typically the result of trauma or previous fusion surgery. Pseudoarthrosis can also occur as a result of poor health from smoking, diabetes, and/or heart disease. It accounts for almost one-fourth of all revision (do-over) fusion surgeries.

Pseudoarthrosis can occur without symptoms so a person may not even know he or she has it. Or, it can cause back and leg (or arm) pain, depending on whether the fusion is at the cervical (neck) or lumbar (low back) level.
